Grand Circus Magazine No. 1
Grand Circus Magazine No. 1

With our inaugural issue, we brought forth a lifestyle magazine about Detroit when none existed on the market. We cover music, fashion, architecture, urbanism, and art, all in-between our linen covers: “Subverting Modernism” examines the critical role of Cass Corridor artists in the 70s; “Belle Isle, 1949” gives readers the words of our Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Philip Levine; we share interviews with local guitar heroes Destroy All Monsters, and look closely at the neighborhoods, like our own Palmer Park. It's an optimistic reading of Detroit that emerged during a period of time when bankruptcy and ruin porn dominated the narrative of the city.
